Chapter 21: I am so sorry for being illiterate

Logically speaking, even the most ordinary Grass-type Pokemon, as long as they are willing to transfer their energy and some of the nutrients stored for Growth to crops, the crops will germinate, grow, and bear fruit at a speed that violates Luo Mu's understanding before he transmigrated.

If the most ordinary planting method is used, with only timely watering and fertilizing every day, the Growth cycle of crops will be faster than before transmigration, but it will still take a certain amount of time to grow.

As one of Luo Mu's six main Pokemon, Serperior's strength is countless times stronger than the ordinary Pokemon on the farm, although it is not as powerful as the legendary Pokemon that can rewrite the surrounding environment by itself.

But making potato seeds grow quickly should be an easy task, right?

Luo Mu didn't understand; he was greatly shocked.

The hoe in his hand loosened, and Luo Mu didn't care about the wet mud on the ground, sitting down on his backside.

Since he was already working in the fields, why care about appearance? As long as he looked presentable outside, that was fine.

Luo Mu's hands, trembling slightly after half a day of farm work, fumbled in his pocket, but found nothing.

Luo Mu then remembered that he had specially hung his phone on Dragonite's chest so that Dragonite could contact Qi Shu, who was waiting in Luminose City.

Now, the best shortcuts, such as searching for answers online or leaving comments under farm bloggers' videos and waiting for their explanations, were impossible.

“Hmm, this is going to be difficult.” Luo Mu sat cross-legged, trying to recall and review his previous farming operations.

Although his movements were a bit rusty, he hadn't made any major mistakes.

After thinking for a long time and still not finding an answer, Luo Mu could only turn his head to look at Serperior and Swampert beside him and ask, “Can you tell what the problem is?”

Serperior and Swampert looked at each other, feeling that Luo Mu was so desperate that he was trying to get answers from them; it seemed he was truly at his wit's end.

However, neither Serperior nor Swampert had any knowledge of planting crops, having accompanied Luo Mu in his battles across the Paldea region for the past year.

Besides combat skills, their minds were still only filled with combat skills.

Asking them to answer this question would be less difficult than asking them to fight the Paldea Elite Four again; with the experience of the first time, it would be at least much simpler, and they wouldn't be as confused as they were now.

Just as Luo Mu and the others were at a loss, a slightly hesitant voice sounded: “Luo Mu Ge, and Swampert and Serperior… What are you doing?”

Luo Mu's troubled expression froze, and he looked at the newcomer.

He had soft, light brown short hair and was wearing an expensive-looking small suit, with a Mabosstiff following beside him, wagging its Tail Whip frantically at Luo Mu.

Luo Mu blinked and exclaimed, “Pai Pa, Mabosstiff!? Why are you here?”

Pai Pa patted Mabosstiff's head, who had been dutifully following him and even fought with many wild Pokemon, telling It that It could go play.

Mabosstiff let out a howl, too eager to even lick its dusty fur, and ran happily across the empty field.

Pai Pa looked at Mabosstiff frolicking in the field with a gentle smile, then turned to Luo Mu and said, “I suddenly wanted to come play with Luo Mu Ge. What, does Luo Mu Ge not welcome me?”

Luo Mu: “...”

Young man, where did you learn this kind of manipulative talk?

“Welcome, of course, welcome.” Luo Mu's mouth twitched, forcing a smile, intending to mess up Pai Pa's hair with his dirty hands, but halfway through, he remembered his hands were covered in mud.

Under Pai Pa's puzzled gaze, he awkwardly withdrew his hands, then turned his head to look into the distance, changing the subject: “Do Dr. Olin and Dr. Fu Tu know you're out?”

Upon hearing this, Pai Pa's slightly upturned lips froze, and he lowered his eyes, whispering, “They know.”

Immersed in the awkward atmosphere, Luo Mu did not notice Pai Pa's emotional distress this time.

Luo Mu thought to himself that he had told Pai Pa to go back so early yesterday and reminded Pai Pa that he could make dinner with Dr. Olin, so their mother-son relationship should have become much closer.

He turned his head and asked curiously, “What did you make for dinner with Dr. Olin last night? Was it good?”

Pai Pa had concealed his emotions the moment Luo Mu turned his head, forcing a slightly stiff smile, then whispered, “We made sandwiches; they were delicious...”

It was just that he tried making sandwiches alone and shared them with Mabosstiff.

Luo Mu nodded slightly, thinking that his subtle hints to Dr. Olin and the others seemed to have some effect.

If he persevered like this, he might really be able to change the two doctors' minds and avoid the regrettable outcome that might come in the future.

Although everyone sitting together making dumplings was common, he really liked it.

Luo Mu squatted in front of Swampert, who was carefully holding the incubator, and extended his hand.

Swampert very consciously squirted water from its mouth; although it looked a bit strange, this water stream was indeed composed of pure Water-type energy and was very clean.

While washing his hands, Luo Mu said, “Speaking of which, I haven't answered your question yet. It's like this: we're trying to plant potatoes, but it seems to have failed.”

Luo Mu shook the water off his hands and pointed to the experimental plot he had temporarily marked out.

Pai Pa had already cried when he needed to, and now he wouldn't feel too much emotion.

He quickly adjusted, blinked, and looked at the experimental plot Luo Mu was pointing to, full of confusion: “Failed? How could it fail?”

Even he knew that potatoes were one of the easiest crops to plant.

Could even planting this fail?

Luo Mu gestured towards Serperior and Swampert with his chin, sighing, “After planting them according to the normal procedure, I had Swampert water them, and Serperior transferred nutrients and Grass-type energy to the seeds, but the result was, let alone potatoes, not even a sprout appeared.”

“...”

Pai Pa fell silent, looking at Luo Mu with a strange and complex gaze, which made Luo Mu feel a chill down his spine and full of incomprehension.

Unable to bear Pai Pa's silent gaze, Luo Mu raised his hands in surrender: “Don't look at me like that! Just say what you want to say!”

Pai Pa shook his head and sighed for a while, then helplessly revealed the truth: “Logically speaking, this is common sense that even a ten-year-old like me knows, Luo Mu Ge, and you just foolishly walked right into it.”

Luo Mu's eye twitched; he was illiterate and had never been to school in this world, which was truly unfortunate.

Pai Pa didn't mind the mud on the hoe at all, stepping into the field in his expensive-looking small suit and leather shoes.

He picked up the hoe and dug for a while, then looked into the hole, a hint of understanding flashing across his face.

Broken seeds, as expected.
